At a meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the National Development and Implementation Council Su Weijem on Monday, the Chinese side emphasized that Croatia sees Croatia as a partner with more and more projects, and a country that has a unique geopolitical position that allows it to cooperate in many different areas. Apart from cooperation in the initiatives "One Belt, One Road" and China Plus 16, this is related to cooperation in Croatian ports.
The cooperation of the two countries is even more intensified after the Chinese company has been selected on the Pelješac bridge construction bid, which entered a new era in cooperation between Croatia and China. This will enable the strengthening of the economy in Croatia with Chinese investments and projects, the Deputy Secretary General explained National Development and Reform Commission. He also stressed that they are positively looking at joint market based principles of cooperation, respecting the applicable rules, laws and business processes of the countries in which they operate.
Minister Oleg Butković stressed that cooperation in the field of infrastructure has great significance for Croatia. He noted that the Croatian interest is to connect the Adriatic and the Danube with a modern railway, and there can attract the potential interest of Chinese investors. On this occasion, he pointed out that more and more Chinese tourists came to Croatia and, in that context, mentioned Croatia's interest in the direct air link between Beijing and Zagreb.
On the same day, in the afternoon, a meeting was held with a contractor at the Peljesac Bridge, the company China Road and Bridge Corporation, where the Croatian delegation met with the projects that this company realized not only in bridge construction but also in other sectors, for instance railway. Minister Butković expressed his satisfaction with the pace of realization of the Peljesac Bridge, which has been closely monitored since the signing of the Treaty in Dubrovnik last year. They also talked about other important transport projects such as the construction of the highway from Ploče to Dubrovnik, a fast road from Dubrovnik to the border with Montenegro, construction of railways and others.
Investments in railway infrastructure were also discussed at today's meeting with President of China Railway Group Limited, Zongyan Zhang. Namely, it is a company that has many years of experience in the construction of railways, both in China and worldwide, and this was a chance to exchange experiences with representatives of HŽ Infrastructure. This Chinese company has shown the desire to participate and to realize investments in Croatia.
