SHANGHAI - Special Economic Zone doo (SEZ) together with the company Eureka from Singapore presents the products of Pelagos net farma doo at the Shanghai Expo. |
Given that China has distanced itself from the import of tuna from Japan, the market is looking for highly sought-after tuna in other markets, so the organizers expect a great success in the marketing of this prestigious Croatian product known all over the world. The expected success is certainly justified because in September Croatia signed an agreement with the People's Republic of China for the import of fish and fish products. In November 2019, the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Geographical Indications and Their Protection was concluded between the EU and the People's Republic of China, which protected 96 European products with labels in China and 100 Chinese products with labels in the EU from imitation and misappropriation. China's willingness to accept the second EU list, which includes 175 more products by March 2025 (160 from earlier and fifteen submitted by Bulgaria, Croatia and Estonia), is certainly of great importance for the Republic of Croatia. The Agreement also includes a mechanism for the subsequent addition of other geographical indications. The company Pelagos net, co-owned by retired general Ante Gotovina, achieved more than EUR 24 million in revenue last year with a profit of more than EUR 3.1 million. A year earlier, Pelagos reported 16.3 million euros in revenue. Last year, Pelagos earned about 20.5 million euros from exports alone. Gotovina's company deals with tuna farming, fishing and processing of small blue fish. Pelagos is also planning further expansion because recently the Directorate for Environmental Impact Assessment and Sustainable Waste Management of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development gave them a positive evaluation of the environmental impact of the tuna farm in the mariculture zone near the island of Lavdar, located north of Dugi Otok and not far from Kornati archipelago, which belongs to Zadar County. |
