BELGRADE - Serbia's infrastructure ministry has said it expects to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China for the overhaul of Belgrade-Nis and Nis-Presevo railway sections of Corridor X during the 16+1 summit in July.

"The reconstruction of the Belgrade-Nis section or railway Corridor X and its extension to the Macedonian border is of significant importance for Serbia," Mihajlovic said on Thursday during a meeting with the Chinese ambassador to Serbia, Li Manchang, according to a statement issued by the infrastructure ministry.

Mihajlovic said earlier on Thursday she expects the government also to sign a contract with China for the overhaul of a section of the railway line connecting Belgrade to Hungary's capital Budapest during the 16+1 summit.

In April, the infrastructure ministry said it plans to invest a total of 600 million euro ($701.5 million) in the overhaul of the Belgrade-Nis railway line and 254.4 million euro into the rail line linking Nis to Presevo.

In July, Bulgaria's capital Sofia will host the seventh summit of heads of government of China and Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC), also known as the 16+1 mechanism.
